About the composer

I am a
minimalist.

I am thankful that this is the musical style that God has given to me for composing music.

One will see examples of this style in the use of limited music notes, and the repetition of sections of music that gives the music familiarity.

I am a minimalist. I am not sure anyone starts out and picks a musical style in which to compose. All I have ever wanted to do is write rock and roll music.  That is the main reason that I studied music in college. Every time I start writing a new piece, I have an internal battle between writing music using the rules from the 18th century and from the music of today. Rock music is in my soul. Possibly, you will hear hints of  The Beatles, Paul Simon, and even Sting, just to name a few.

What we do

I write music that small volunteer church choirs can sing.

I write linear musical lines for the singers. My music is also a canvas for the music director to experiment with the sounds, dynamics, and balance to create their own interpretation of my music. As a composer, I give very little direction in these areas. The only area of consistency is in the tempo. In some of my pieces, it will be impossible to enunciate the words at a fast tempo.

In lieu of musical directions within the piece, I do provide composer’s notes that may provide insight into interpreting the pieces.
