Evensong
Evensong is the name of the service of Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer that is set to music. Traditionally, Evensong is sung by the choir as the congregation participates while listening. The Evensong that I have composed is to be sung by the congregation with the choir providing support. The entire service is based on 7 notes and a chord progression of I, V, ii, vi, IV, V, I. (There may be liberties taken in the order of the progression to better support the melody.)
Optional: I have composed an opening sentence and a closing sentence that the congregation may use as a response. If omitted, the cantor, or leader will either chant or say the sentence.
The Alleluia is omitted during the season of Lent. When singing the Alleluia, it may be sung multiple times, if desired.
